Most everyone has experienced a scam on the internet. Whether it be a classic, like a Nigerian Prince you are related to who needs your help, or a post from what looks like a reputable company that says you won a prize, and need to claim it by giving up your personal info. One such scam I have seen myself  is my friends sending me DMs on Instagram, claiming they had made me something. This was weird to see at first, when i clicked on the link, there was what seemed to be an Instagram login page, when you log in on there, you give your information to people using the website. After that what they wanted to do was log into your instagram, change the password and take it for themselves, then DM more people into doing the same thing. I could have seen this coming if I had just looked hard at it and tell that something was off, and first asked what the link was. In the future I have been much more carefull of what links I am clicking.

Kyais, I 100% agree. While I have never personally fallen victim to any scam like the ones you have mentioned, I have seen them in my span folder on email. I always make sure to check a link before I click it.

Great take Not everyone can always tell when something is a scam. Some scams look very real, and even careful people can get tricked. Instead of blaming users for not noticing the signs, we could argue that apps like Instagram should do more to warn people about fake links and protect accounts from being hacked in the first place.

While I agree that there should be warnings, maybe not allowing suspicious activities in the first place, sometimes we need to use critical thinking skills to not fall for the scams in the first place.

Hello Kyais,

I felt like this post was very relatable because I too have seen such a scam on instagram direct messages. Although it seems just like a friend reaching out it can be very dangerous. I think awareness should be more widely spread about internet scamming and this is a great start.

I agree Brady, spreading self awareness about scams like these are a great way to help try and eliminate them in the future.
